Enterprises across the globe engaged in product design and manufacturing are experiencing pressures as never before. Forward looking companies are actively pursuing the 4th dimension of success that is ?Innovation' and adopting fast, collaborative product development technology to lay out new generation of product development foundation which is fast, responsive , adaptive and innovative. Today companies have to find a reasonable and accountable answer to the challenge of ?Mass Customization?. Mass customization describes the increasing individualization of products and services. An individual product shall be offered for appropriate costs and with sufficient variability and adaptability to each customer, who can use this product exactly in the way he wants. This can be achieved by ?Product Lifecycle Management' (PLM), which covers the integrated organization and administration of the product life cycle. PLM consists of different components, which are used in meaningful coexistence, context, and clearly defined co-operations. Three views on PLM have evolved the product view, the process and organization view, and the data and information view. These all are embedded in the knowledge around the product as well as about its processes of development, manufacturing, utilization, etc. This paper gives an insight into these three views on PLM together with its associated benefits to the manufacturing industry. [...] For manufacturing managers, the problems that take place in release to manufacturing are Multiple changes to the product Control of enterprise-wide data exchange, 3.Resource management across the value chain Control production schedules. [1]It's not surprising that the process cause many sleepless nights. Yet, in today's intensely competitive business environment, the typical release to manufacturing process simply doesn't cut it anymore. There's a better way to manage this crucial process, and it's easier than most manufacturers imagine INTEGRATION OF ENGINEERING AND The major roadblock to an efficient release process is the act of making changes to post-production MANUFACTURING products. [...] Harnessing the Internet and corporate information networks to extend the use of Common Database across the extended enterprise brings a new level of decision support and collaboration that breaks down the barriers of design segregation and further accelerates the product development process. The Role of Common Database, which integrates engineering and manufacturing, is presented in Fig.1 PLM is achieved through construction of the broadest and most integrated solution that is fundamentally based on maintaining a common database of all the departments concerned in the lifecycle of a product. [...] CONCLUSION In this paper we discussed various issues of product development and case studies for strategic product development in order to achieve industrial, technical & financial goals. Design of products is changing frequently and functional requirements are becoming more demanding. Product Lifecycle Management has evolved as a new paradigm that helped the industry to accommodate the fast changing demands of the customers in terms of large variety of products and lower product life cycle. To stay alive in 21st century those involved in Product Lifecycle Management solutions should leverage the advantage of the digital ,visual & web enabled technologies seamlessly in [...]
