The Albany Police Department protects and serves our city with the use of both new and traditional forms of policing. The Albany Police Department strives to preserve and advance democratic values, to improve the quality of life for every citizen, and vow to only use force only when required and only as a last resort. At the very top of the Albany Police Hierarchy is the department's Chief of Police. The Police Chief oversees every sub-department within the Albany Police Department. The Police Chief ensures the Albany Police Department runs to the best of its ability and provides the greatest amount of safety to Albany county residents and commuters.
