Cinema and Society in Great-Britain (2005)
The rivalry between the French and the British is common knowledge all over the world. This rivalry is also palpable when it comes to French and British filmmakers.
Some of this ill-will began when Truffaut, (who was possibly the most famous French director) said that the British are incapable of making movies. This statement has some truth to it because British cinema has always experienced major issues.
But is it possible to say that British cinema is completely non existent and that ?British cinema' is an oxymoron?
In this paper, we will first try to see in what way British cinema really subsists and then study its unique features.
