We present a brief overview of the highly acclaimed report of the Committee Lancelot. The report, commissioned in January 2005 by the Prime Minister of the time, Jean-Pierre Raffarin and written by eminent persons from the media argues that "in its current state, the French media landscape has not reached an alarming degree of concentration." The commission was chaired by Alain Lancelot, former director of the Institute d'Etudes Politiques de Paris. He felt that pluralism and cultural diversity are not really threatened by media concentration, and the priority for France would constitute big media companies that are profitable and internationally competitive.
