Airbus - Projects and strategy
The US aerospace market has been a pioneer of fusion. Faced with this redesign, the US persisted in employing a multitude of subcontractors in Europe. The world of defense was very fragmented and contributed to the American monopoly. From the late 90s, the European market has kept being redesigned. EADS is a result of this remodeling. EADS (European Aeronautic Defense and Space Company), is the European leader in the field of aeronautics, space, and defense, and comprises of the activities of its three founding partners Aerospatiale Matra SA (France), Construcciones Aeronauticas SA (Spain) and Daimler-Chrysler Aerospace AG (Germany). The new group celebrated its origin at the same time as the IPO, simultaneously in the Frankfurt, Paris and the Spanish market on July 10th, 2008. This merger was made in great secrecy and in a very short time; this was ?also a key factor of success' as was announced in October 2007. The company was listed in the market in July next year. Several delays hindered the completion of the merger: it was developed and completed in less than a year, while the normal time of a merger is 2 years. In terms of market shares, EADS is one of the two largest manufacturers in the world's commercial aircraft s civilian helicopters, civilian space launchers and missiles sector. It is also a leading provider of military aircraft, satellites and electronic equipment. In 2008, EADS achieved sales of over $24.2 billion EUROS, of which 75% was from the civilian sector and 25% from the military. This places EADS at the third position in the arena of aeronautics, space and defense. The new group employs 100,600 people in over 90 production sites in France, Germany and Spain. EADS is a Dutch company (NV) based in Amsterdam. The core functions of its dealings are located in Munich and Paris and the two current co-chairs are Philippe Camus and Rainer Hertrich. Based on three different cultures, it is then the responsibility of the group to create a new identity.
