In this presentation, we will explain the activities of 'Emergency'. We are interested in it, because we find this kind of an organization is essential and necessary to help needy people all over the world. Emergency is a humanitarian organization founded in Milan, Italy in 1994. Emergency is an independent, neutral and non-political Italian organization, and is especially an ONG/ONLUS (Non Governmental Organization/Non-Profit Organization of Social Interest) which provides free, high quality medical and surgical treatment to the civilian victims of war, landmines, poverty and brings help to victims of natural disasters. Every day, Emergency deals with the disasters caused by war and for this reason it promotes a culture of solidarity, peace and respect for human rights. The work of Emergency around the world has been possible due to the help of thousands of volunteers and supporters. Emergency was founded by Gino Strada, an Italian doctor, with the help of other colleagues. At the beginning of its activities, Emergency promoted a campaign against anti-personnel landmines which brought Italy to ban them. In 1996, Emergency opened it's first hospital in Iraq. In 2001, shortly before the war in Afghanistan, Emergency took a stand against the war and in September 2002, together with other organizations, Emergency launched a huge campaign to prevent Italy from taking part in the war against Iraq.
