This practicum field project is the result of an interview conducted with the Investor Relations & Strategic Development Director of Citigroup in Athens, Greece.* The goal of this project is to compare the views of a prominent executive with the theoretical approach provided by famous scholars about the roles of a manager. So, the goal of this project is to compare theory to business reality.The above individual possesses profound academic background and diverse working experience. He is in managerial positions for the last eight years and he has contributed drastically to all the organizations he has been engaged in the course of his successful professional career.

In business, culture has a prevailing influence on organizational behavior because the collective beliefs and values symbolize basic assumptions guiding this behavior (Sathe, 1983). Exchanging views in the decision making process results in better decisions. Although responsibility lies on a specific individual, organization should have an open management, which encourages colleagues to speak up and say their opinion. [...]

Successful managers should be designers, mentors and stewards within the organization aiming to enhance employee performance by showing them the right direction and making them feel that they are part of a broader vision than the narrow space of their office. No distinction can be made between the three roles as they are all part of a larger concept, the effective management. [...]
