Scholars examining the process of change have noted that regardless of the environment in which change takes place this process is often difficult to successfully navigate. With this in mind, researchers have begun examining the process of change and how it occurs in the organization. Through this research, managers and leaders have been able to identify key mechanisms that can be utilized to facilitate the process of change in the organization. The resultant change theories which have been developed through this discourse have been applied in a wide range of settings. At the present time, educational leaders are now investigating the specific change theories that can be utilized for the successful development of the school organization.

[...] Evaluation and Application of Change Theories Examining the differences that exist between the empirical-rational change theory and transformational leadership theory it seems reasonable to argue that while the empirical-rational change theory focuses on specific issues of change that need to be addressed by the organization, transformational leadership considers change as an ongoing process that occurs in the organization on a day-to-day basis. Because both change theories appear to address the needs of employees of the organization and a positive manner, it is evident that both change theories could have a positive impact on the development of the organization. [...] When considering the specific steps that could be taken to implement the empirical-rational theory of change in the organization, the importance of information and communication are clearly essential to implementation of this process. Thus, organizations choosing to utilize this change framework need to consider the specific information and communication structures that can be developed to facilitate the spread of information throughout the organization. Through the development and implementation of information and communication structures, the organization will be able to ensure that all employees received critical information necessary for decision-making.
