Modern type of advertising developed in the late 19th or 20th century. Commercial advertisers generally try to increase the consumption of products through branding. Different types of media are generally used for this, such as magazines, news papers, television and billboards. The money spent on advertising has been estimated to be more than $150 billion in United States & $385 billion worldwide. By 2010 it is expected to exceed to a budget of $450 billion.

Wall or rock painting for commercial advertisement is a very ancient form of advertising that is being presently used in many parts of Asia, Africa & South America. Out-of-home advertising & bill boards are the most ancient forms of advertising.
