In 1914, three states shared the colonized Asia: France had Indochina, the United Kingdom had the Empire of India, and the Netherlands possessed Indonesia. This date corresponds to the height of colonial empires, but their dominance weakened gradually. It was in 1955 that the Bandung Conference marking the end of decolonization in Asia was held. What steps that led to the total decolonization of Asia? In 1914, colonial rule was is at its peak, but in 1918 it was challenged by the rise of nationalism that would lead to the independence of India, Indonesia and Indochina.
