Statistical Product and Service Solutions, Software Package Impact, Social Sciences
This paper discusses the impacts of Statistical Product and Service Solutions (SPSS) on social sciences. Social life is full of analytical demands from day to day activities that many of the programs that were initially developed have not been able to meet. The world is in the cusp of great innovations and better tools that contribute positively to the day to day activities and needs. However, human beings should be careful to make sure that future needs are catered for while developing these tools.
Although Statistical Product and Service Solutions presents many advantages to the social lives, and it is difficult to capture the details of how it impacts to
everyone, this paper provides a summary of the benefits that it has brought in the field of academic, research and the extraction and analysis of information in our daily life, advantages that previously developed programs did not support. In my view, Statistical Product and Service Solutions has helped to solve the modern data analysis needs through revolutionizing both academic and commercial data analysis demands to make them achievable. There is a great demand for inference of data that comes with the arrival of the new software, and this has helped people to understand the world within and around them through data.
[...] SPSS also offers a wide range of data documentation that ensures consistency in data entry (Steven, par 1). Some of the analytical tools do not give optimal control over data organization. SPSS makes data analysis quicker by analyzing the locations of cases and variables automatically without having to identify them manually as in other programs like spreadsheets. Furthermore, SPSS is designed to separate the analyzed data from the raw data in a separable file that is different from the data in Surname 5 order to make it easily accessible and identifiable. [...]
[...] It was first tested in Stanford University with the intention of using it for local consumption. Later version founded by Gamst, Meyers and Guarino in 1984 for personal computers has increased the accessibility of the software in personal computers (SPSS website, par 3-8). B.Creations and innovations are born out of necessity and because this innovation solved a number of needs that were initially not met by previous software's, SPSS quickly caught demands from several universities across America. It dawned to the developers that they had a data analyzing tool and a viable product too. [...]
[...] SPSS is menu driven and provides a user learning interface that makes it for the user to understand the software easily (Steven, par 4). Disadvantages Using SPSS in research requires adequate knowledge on analysis of data in order to get the best information out of the analyzed data. Researchers who are short of analytical expertise as far as SPSS is concerned may find it tough to make the right use of the software. It may, therefore, require external expertise to do the analysis, and this may be expensive. [...]
[...] Conclusions A.The impact of SPSS in social sciences is limited although it has been used in many research fields. Its impacts and the advantages brought by its speed and tailored to research are well documented, but the effects in academic research remain down and are not adequately documented. SPSS and other statistical analysis tools have contributed to low quality research, but these have not been well documented in most of the publications. There are issues that need Surname 7 to be addressed beyond the user-friendly aspect in order to achieve the desired quality in research. [...]
