The Chancellor is the head of the government within the German political system and has its special place and its powers in the Basic Law of 1949.

The Chancellor:
In 1949 The Germans decided to create a new German State and did so in Bonn. They intended to establish a collegiate structure, a firm system and being the Chancellor in this system gives you a special place within the system.
Several factors contribute to the affirmation of the authority of the Chancellor and these are set in the Basic Law.
