Jorge Zegarra has been art director for World Traveler since November of 2005. Prior to that, he worked as a graphic designer and then as art director for La Voz magazine. He also worked for two publications of American City Business Journals, giving him a combined total of over four years of publishing experience before starting at World Traveler.

[...] The ideal qualifications for an art director of a travel magazine, says Zegarra, include a degree in graphic design or photography, some publishing experience (preferably as a graphic designer or layout artist), experience working with difficult clients, and extensive world knowledge derived from both travel and formal education. A working knowledge of at least one foreign language can also be extremely helpful in communicating with freelancers, representatives from business partners, and others. You never know, Zegarra adds, when you'll have to find and work with ?that one perfect photographer [who] lives across the world and speaks a different language.? As far as personal qualities, Zegarra says that patience and a positive attitude are imperative for his job. [...]
