Decentralization in the United Kingdom
Devolution or decentralization in the United Kingdom is different from other forms of decentralization. Here, there is a clear separation of tasks and levels. There is a separation of powers and a formal hierarchy, while other European countries tend to move towards an ?intergovernmental' regime. Great Britain granted legislative and financial autonomy to certain areas. Due to the limited number of local authorities, decentralization in Britain had only 2 levels - the County and District levels. The central government had the ability to control these levels.
