Homosexuality is slowly being accepted now a days. The recognition of homosexual couples is governed by two opposing logics: the Gay Assimilationist logic, and the Queer Liberationist logic. The gay assismilationists believe in the ideology that the gay/lesbian people are like average, normal citizens. They also strive to make the public look at gays/lesbians in the same way. They advocate equal family rights, and recognition for these people. Some gay assimilationists do not include the transexuals and bisexuals in this category, as they feel that this hurts the gay rights movement. They also try to get sponsors and big governmental organizations to support their cause. They have also been demanding rights to marriage, adoption, and serving freely and openly in the military. The assimilationsts also look at emphasizing the aspect of love, finance and faith in LGBT relationships, instead of the sexuality aspect. The queer liberationists, however, view the concept of gender and sexuality in non-conformist ways. They do not seek to fit into the normal society at all. They are proud of being queer, and expect the society to accept them the way they are. They do not want to change to fit into a hetero-normative society. They are against the concept of marriage sometimes, and do not want to advocate serving in the military, as they are anti-military. They do not seek to hide their gender expression or sexuality. They seek to embrace and encourage what was frowned upon as inappropriate. Some people feel that the gay assimilationists have a better stand as they are trying to portray gays as normal people, and are trying to move inside the traditional boundaries of the society. However, there are others who second the queer liberationists, as they are not concerned about fitting into the normal society, based on gender expression and sexuality. In this document, we will discuss homosexual marriage, which has been considered as a new form of civil disobedience in some states of the U.S. In order to discuss homosexual marriage, we cannot use the term LGBT (Lesbians, gays, bisexual and transgender), as it is too ambiguous. So, instead of using the medical term "homosexuals", the term "gays and lesbians" has been used in this document.
