Globalization drives the software developers to give a new face to the software through multilingualization. So multilingual software developments were put under the lime light and it got support from academic institutes and software development organizations as either commercial or research projects. These efforts are discrete and particular to specific needs and/or technologies. Also these efforts are restricted due to lack of standard in different concerns of fundamental concepts of language and multilingualism in digital form. Furthermore, there is no formalization on multilingual software which makes the designer more difficult to work with these kinds of software. We have studied that various multilingual software developed and derived formal models for the same. The formal models are categorized as wrapper, monolithic and librarybased models. The background models are presented in this paper. In addition, we also present a discussion about the proposed models focusing on the concerns of stake holders and qualities expected from multilingual software.
