Emerging mobile applications will need location information for delivering the right services to right persons at right places and time. A location-based service (LBS) is an information and entertainment service, accessible with mobile devices through the mobile network and utilizing the ability to make use of the geographical position of the mobile device. If, LBS service needs any specific hardware for delivering it, then it may be an optional choice for users. But with wireless communication technology user get access Location-Based services with their User Equipments like Mobile. Such an emerging Wireless Communication technology is 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) has proposed the IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) as a key element in the UMTS architecture supporting multimedia services in the packet switched domain. Keywords: LBS; 3GPP IMS; Positioning; GIS, GPS

[...] If positioning delivers a spatial location, it will be mapped onto a descriptive location in order to be interpretable by the LBS user Location Service (LCS) LCS should be distinguished from LBS as it exclusively deals with the localization of target, and also makes the resulting location data available to 4. IMS Location Server (ILS) The ILS is designed as a generic SIP Application Server located in the IMS Service Layer. Methods for determining user positions are not implemented within ILS; rather, ILS is responsible for delegating the location request to the positioning system. [...]
