Alcoholism is the third leading cause of mortality in France. It causes about 60000 deaths every year. There are 2 million alcoholics in France. The average consumption is 13.1 liters of pure alcohol a year per capita (the highest in Europe). The most common results of alcoholism are driving drunk, alcoholic psychosis, liver cirrhosis, cancers of the esophagus or larynx and domestic accidents.
