Both Brazil and China have searched for ethanol in Malagasy. Many questions regarding its sources have to be elucidated. For nearly three years, answers were beginning to arrive. The CNRIT is a body composed of a diverse team of chemical engineers based in Fiadanana. "[It is] a fairly mundane story," according to a chemical engineer, Pascal Rakotomavo.

In 2005, a team from the center has done research on land in the region of Antsinanana. There were tons of lychees packed in warehouses at the port city of Tamatave. They discarded it because the fruit did not meet export standards. Instead of discarding the fruit waste, alcohol was distilled from the lychees using the Ottoman process. The convincing results of this test allowed the team to win a partnership with GM-Facr Tamatave.

Further studies led them to a highland region of Madagascar, which is known for its rum craft, the Amoronimania.
