The dictatorship of the majority vs. the dictatorship of minorities
- Minorities emerge on the public debate coated with a totalitarian
- Identity claims
- Legitimizing a multicultural approach
The tyranny of the majority does not seem enviable, but it is paradoxically the own democracy, which gives full legitimacy to the number and not the optimal result / rational optimum. This expression borrowed from Tocqueville would be the product of "belief in equality." Tocqueville believed that the future of Europe was determined in the United States. As we know, it was not a devoted democrat, but a lucid aristocrat who understood that the world was doomed past. Now, the signs tend to prove that this reality that has lived, and that democracy in its absolute quest for freedom and equality and encourages the development of minority rights. Despite its geocentric (Western democracy), this allows us to reflect on the very concept of democracy. Power to the people is not incompatible with the empowerment of minorities. This new conflict that puts identity fundamental rights center especially opposes the multicultural model republican model.
The question facing us takes as descriptive as prescriptive. So there is there a simple economic rhetoric pro minorities is this more precisely an ideology of minorities,if this is neologism? The recognition of each of the weakest, less is it integrated the logical extension of the democratic concept? Is it an equal freedom to search or momentum? Is everything to throw in our republican model? But can we hope to see a way out? And in fact, the "tyranny of the majority" is it not an oxymoron?
