Southern Methodist University (SMU) is a private university founded in 1911 at the heart of Dallas Texas offering undergraduate, graduate and professional programs in its seven schools: humanities and sciences; business; the performing, visual, and communication arts; engineering; education and human development; law; and theology (Facts). It serves students from all 50 states as well as other countries. Presently, there are 10,941 students enrolled in the university (Enrolment). As part of its service to the community, SMU is considering a major renovation of its school buildings to contribute in the global, environmental issues and improve its image, output, and company. This report aims to provide solution to the said issues by exploring and discussing ways on how to contribute in better environment and building a good company image.

[...] This should also be considered in renovating the school buildings. Third, waste management is a growing concern today. Given the increasing population and consumption, waste seems to pile up quickly. Also, efficient waste management is important to decrease pollution and eliminate health hazards. The City of Dallas Sanitation Services launched a recycling program last year that includes a 96-gallon Big Blue recycling roll cart to be used by everyone for recycling. With this rolling cart, people can recycle more items without the need for manual separation of wastes. [...]

[...] The design for plumbing should use recycled water for toilets (or gray water system) that will recover rainwater for site irrigation. In addition, to minimize the wastewater used in toilets, the ultra low-flush toilets, low-flow shower heads, and other water conserving fixtures should be used. For a centralized hot water distribution, recirculation systems should be used. A water budget approach being promoted by the California Irrigation Management Information System data for landscaping should also be used (Green Building Basics). Conserving water would not only be beneficial to the environment but also helps in saving money for the school. [...]

It houses ten libraries which contain the largest collection of research materials in the Southwest. It also has the Meadows Museum which contains the finest collection of Spanish art outside Spain (Facts). SMU has seven degree-granting schools, namely, Dedman College of Humanities and Sciences, Meadows School of the Arts, Cox School of Business, School of Engineering, Dedman School of Law, Perkins School of Theology, and Annette Caldwell Simmons School of Education and Human Development.
