Racism is an issue that has been perpetuated within American society. Minorities of all races have been subjected to the effects of the phenomenon within our country. However, the most publicized occurrences are against African Americans. The actuated racism against this group of Americans is always excused. In each publicized instance, the blatant acts of prejudice are categorized in a different manner. Both history and news reveal instances of excused racism and the re-categorization.

[...] Freeing slaves served the purpose of preserving capitalism. Without this document the south would control the economy without competition from the north essentially ending capitalism in America. Consequently, the institution of slavery is excused as just another part of American history (Mays, Johnson, Coles, Gellene, & Cochran, 2013). In summary, the sociological phenomenon of excused racism is evident. There should be more accountability for acts of hatred towards individuals of a different race. This issue succeeds the African American race and affects us all as Americans. [...]
