[...] Background TATA Bearings is a profit center of TATA Steel Ltd with its manufacturing facility located in Kharagpur. It is the largest manufacturing unit in the Eastern part of India and the fourth largest bearings manufacturer in the country. TATA Bearings originally began its operation in 1978 under Metal Box India Ltd. During those days the plant could not achieve its designated capacity and incurred financial losses, its capacity was only 3.0 million bearings per annum. Consequently the unit was taken over by TISCO in 1983, while MRTP clearance was received only in June 1985. [...]
